“I feel stronger now than I did in my forties!” ~Laura
What did your fitness and wellness journey look like before joining?
I've been going to the Warehouse for 13 years now so it's hard to remember what my fitness and wellness journey looked like before joining:) Mostly I remember dreading going to the gym - always waiting for the machines, no plan for what my workout was going to be, getting easily bored with the workout, and no friendly instructor to welcome me.
What experiences or seasons of life shaped how you view health, movement, and self-care today?
Right now, the getting older season of life (I'm turning 60 soon) has certainly shaped my view of health, movement and self-care. I love being able to stay active, from golfing with family and friends, snowshoeing, hiking in Duluth and Arizona, playing pickleball, and last year I ran the Twin Cities 10 mile with my 2 sons (and we signed up again this year). I know the reason I'm able to do all these things is because of the classes at The Warehouse. And I want to continue to stay active later in life.
What brought you to The Warehouse, and what has your experience been like since joining?
A friend and I took a class from Nickie through community ed before she opened her studio. I really enjoyed her classes, so when I heard she was opening her own studio, I signed up! From the original building to the new space, and through many changes in the world, Nickie and her team (and the members) have made working out such a positive experience.
What have you learned about yourself, and how has our community played a role in your growth?
Even though I've never been athletic, and I've learned that I am NOT coordinated at all, the variety of classes offered has something for everyone. I love that we're constantly being told it's our body and our workout. And all the instructors cues, high fives, and music gets me through even the most difficult work out.
What positive changes have you noticed physically, mentally, or emotionally since joining?
I try to plan my week around when I can get work-outs in. If I miss a class, I feel off. If I'm feeling stressed, there's nothing like a good sweat session to turn my mood around! Physically, the changes have been gradual, but I feel stronger now than I did in my 40's.
Laura's favorites!
Music: I'm a classic rock kind of gal! And I love a good cool-down song.
Workout Class: From day 1 it's been Bootcamp!
Quote/Mantra: My grandma's favorite bible verse was Philippians 4 vs 6&7, she wrote it out on a notecard and gave it to me in high school, I have it hung in my entryway, it's a good one!
