“Tales From the Member Trenches”
I have found that my kids prefer the texture of spinach salads over romaine or iceberg lettuce. They also prefer to eat food that they have a hand in making. We have taught both of our kids how to safely use knives, and while we still supervise, our boys are more than capable of chopping snow peas and strawberries in to bite sized salad toppers! However, carrots and onions, are another story; they are much too hard texture/odd shaped for kids with knives.
Our boys also like to choose their own dressings. We have a variety of choices available to them when we make a salad bar like this. Pour them into small bowls so they can spoon it on themselves, or give them a dish to dip!
Isn't the final product beautiful? Both boys had 2 big bowls! Will eats everything, and Brady is a little more reserved, but is willing to try anything. They both loved the freedom to create their own custom salad. It was delicious, easy, and fun!
